Additional Admission Requirements
1. art and design
Each applicant must also submit a portfolio of art works (a minimum of 5 drawings or paintings or designs in any media.) Size: 37 ½ cm x 27 cm or 54 cm x 38 cm.
2. music
Applicants for Music studies must obtain
( a) a grade 5 in theory and practical for piano or Grade 4 in theory and practical for other musical instruments (a.b.r.s.m./ trinity guildhall certificate) or equivalent. (b) By audition.
Office will remain open on 19 & 20 July 2008 for registration.

Application Procedure
Application for admission must be made on the prescribed form of the Institute, obtainable from the Registrar, Malaysian Institute of Art
Application may be sent by registered post or handed personally to the Institute no later than the closing date as advertised. All applications must include the following non-returnable documents:
+ 3 copies of i/c size photographs
+ Certified copy of birth certificate
+ Certified copy of transcripts of highest
educational qualification
+ Certified copy of school leaving certificate
and testimonials
+ Portfolio of a minimum of 5 drawings or
paintings or designs (Not applicable to
students applying for Music)
+ Music applications must include a certified
copy of a.b.r.s.m. / trinity guildhall
certificate or equivalent
Tuition fees are payable upon successful admission to the Institute. Fees paid are not refundable or transferable. Bankers Draft or Money Order should be made payable to Malaysian Institute of Art

Scholarships & Financial Aid
Scholarships
are awarded through nationwide art
& design competition. Financial aid is avail able
for applications by deserving or needy students
(from 2nd semester onwards) to pursue their
studies in mia. mia students are also eligible
for ptptn loan.
Accommodation
The Student Affairs Department will assist
students who need accommodation in finding private houses and rooms in nearby areas.

Admission Procedure for International Students
3- Year Full-time Diploma courses :

Entry Requirements:
The necessary qualifications for entry into Diploma courses are:-
A.) INDONESIA
1.) Applicants must possess SMU(Sekolah Menengah Umum)/SMA qualification
(Completed 6 years of Secondary
Education) with 3 subjects scores
grade 7.0. English proficiency with
TOEFL score of 5 25 inclusive of Comprehension or its equivalent.
2.) Successful applicants without the
English Proficiency will need to follow
and pass an intensive English
proficiency course prior to enroll
in the Diploma course.
OTHER COUNTRIES
1.) Applicants with high school certificates
or equivalent (completed 6 years of Secondary Education) from all other countries with minimum number of 3 credits. (75% or B grade)
2.) English proficiency with TOEFL score of
525 inclusive of Comprehension or its equivalent.
3.) Successful applicants without the
English Proficiency will need to follow
and pass the intensive English
proficiency course prior to enroll
in the Diploma course.
The following documents are required to be submitted together with the Enrolment
Application Form:
A.) Certified copy of SMU/Secondary School certificate / High School examination results.
B.) Certified copy of birth certificate
C.) Certified copy of school leaving certificate
D.) 3 copies of passport size photograph and 3 copies of I.C. size(3cm x 3.5cm) photograph
E.) A portfolio of 5 pieces of slides/photographs in painting/drawing/design certified by art teacher/Principal.
F.) If applicant do es not have a portfolio, MIA will provide individual course counselling or through email to assess your suitability to the course of your choice.
G.) Certified certificate of TOEFL
Note: The certificates stated in (a) to (c) above must be translated into English if they are in other languagues.
B.) BRITISH COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES
Applicants with GCE‘O’ Level ,SAM(Yr 12) or CPU(Grade 13) qualifications with minimum number of 3 credits.
The following documents are required to be submitted together with the Enrolment Application Form:
- Certified copy of ‘O’ Level /SAM/CPU certificate
- 3 copies of passport size photograph and 3 copies of I.C. size(3cm x 3.5cm) photograph
- Certified copy of birth certificate
- Certified copy of school leaving certificate
- 5 pieces of slides/photographs in painting/drawing/design certified by Art teacher /Principal, which can also sent through E-mail in JPEG format to registry@mia.edu.my or CD.

+ Letter of Acceptance will be sent to successful applicants by post ,email or through our representatives.
+ 2 complete sets of photocopy of applicant’s passport and 2 copies of self-photographs (passport size) must be sent to MIA upon receiving the Letter of Acceptance.
+ MIA will assist the applicants to apply to the Education Department and Immigration Department for the ‘Letter of Approval for Entry’.
+ ‘Letter of Approval for Entry’ from Malaysian Immigration Department will be forwarded to
the applicant by MIA.
+ Successful applicants are to bring their passport together with the Letter ofApproval for Entry
to the nearest Malaysia Embassy / Consulate to obtain the ‘ValidEntry Visa’ before entry
into Malaysia.
+ If the applicant does not obtained the ‘Valid Entry Visa’ from the Malaysia Embassy / Consulate at home country, a fee of RM 500/-
(approx. USD 160/-) will be imposed at the point of entry into Malaysia by Malaysian Immigration.
+ The Letter of Approval for Entry is valid
for 3 months.
+ Student Pass application will only be processed after course registration.
Entry To Malaysia
+ Sudent must bring along the ‘Letter of Approval for Entry’ or ‘Valid Entry Visa’ and Passport (must be valid for at least 12 months before expiry) when entering into Malaysia.
+ Student must notify MIA by fax (603-41088700) or email : registry@mia.edu.my at least 7 days before departure with the following details:
- Date & Time of departure from home country;
- Port/place of departure;
- Date & Time of arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport(KLIA)
- Airline Name and flight number.
+ The student is required to fill in the Disembarkation Card provided by the airline crew. It is important to keep the card.
+ After leaving the airplane, the student is required to board a ‘Sky-train’ where it will take the passenger from Terminal C to the Baggage Reclaim & Immigration Terminal . Student must take the sky-train within 20 minutes after leaving the plane.
+ MIA will send representative to meet the student at the immigration counter at the K.L. International (KLIA) Airport.
+ MIA representative will be holding a placard (piece of paper) printed with the student’s name and flight details. He / she will guide the student to the immigration counter for clearance.
+ The student must be ready with the following documents:
- Passport
- Original copy of ‘Letter of Approval for Entry’ and Valid Entry Visa.
Note: Immigration Officer will not releases the student without the presence of MIA representative to identify and acknowledge the student.
+ The student must arrive two weekbefore the commencement of the semester or English Proficiency Course.
+ According to Malaysian Law, no one is allowed to bring in more than one thousand Malaysian Currency notes (RM1,000). No limit is imposed on other foreign currency notes.
+ The student is advised to bring in their money in the form of Bankdraft or traveler’s cheque for security reasons.
+ The students are reminded NOT to keep any money, cheques, passport or any other important documents in their luggages when travelling
to Malaysia.
+ International student holding valid student pass are allowed to work part-time and not exceeding
20 hours per week during the semester holidays. This is subjected to the approval of the Institute and the Immigration office in Malaysia. |

Refund of Personal Bond
+ For any student who intends to return to his/her home country after completing the course, the following documents must be submitted to the Institute:
- The completed application form for refund
- The original receipt of Personal Bond
- Photostat copy of air ticket for departure
+ For students who transfer of studies to another college, the following documents must be
submitted to the Institute:
- The completed application form for refund
- The original receipt of Bond
- Photostat copy of acceptance letter for enrolment by another college
- Photostat copy of Student Visa endorsed
by the Immigration Office with the name
of the college he/she has enrolled.
+ When all the above requirements are met, a refund cheque in Malaysian currency will be
issued to the applicant

Insurance
Every International student enrolled in MIA is required to take up a Personal Accident Insurance policy for a period of 6 semesters. The premium is RM25/-(approx. USD 9 /-)and is subject to change.
It is also compulsory for all International
students to take up the Medical Insurance policy. Premiums are age banded and there is no distinction between male and female premium rates. International student who could show proof
of purchase of worldwide coverage on medical basis do not have to take up the policy in MIA.
Accommodation:
Arrangement of student accommodation in student house will be made by the Student Affairs of the Institute. Room rental per semester is RM1600/-(approx. USD 5 00/-) on sharing basis. Washing machine, refrigerator, fans and television are provided. Blankets, pillows and all other
personal items are self-supplied.
Public transport and shopping are very
convenient in and around the neighbourhood.
Please take note that the student house is only for registered student and he/she is only allowed to
stay in for one semester only. |
