Achievements by MIA students in 2010

MIA Ladies Choir World Champion in the Female Chamber Category

The MIA Ladies Choir had brought honour to our nation by securing the gold award as well as the

World Championship in the Female Chamber Category at the 6th World Choir Games held in Shao Xing,

China on July 18, 2010.

The MIA Ladies Choir secured first placing in the Equal Voice Category with a gold award and second placing

in the overall international competition at the 8th Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod held in KLPac on June 2, 2010.

The MIA Choir was awarded a distinction in the Trinity-Guildhall Choral Examination held on June 18, 2010.

Malaysia Footwear Designer Competition 2010

2nd prize won by Textile and Fashion Design student Cello Ong Chun Ling,organized by Malaysian Footwear

NUS’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music Scholarship Recipient

Recent graduate, Mr Yeo Chow Shern from the Music Department was offered a full scholarship

to further his studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, National University of Singapore for the

July 2010 session.

MIECO designer’s choice Award 2009

Interior Design student Yew Tze Yong was awarded 2nd prize (RM2000.00 scholarship and a trophy) in the student category.

National Art-Song Singing Competition

Ms. Lau Yu Xin secured the 2nd prize in the 35th National Art-Song Singing Competition – “Central Region” on September 27, 2009 whilst Ms Lim Lee Ping was one of the finalist in this competition organized by the committees of the 43rd KL Music Festival.

Malaysian Youth Music Festival

Four students from the Department of Music, Ms Lau Yu Xin , Ms Vanessa Wong and Ms Lim Lee Ping were awarded the Gold 1, Gold 2 and bronze awards respectively in the solo singing competition whilst Mr Dexter Boi secured the bronze award in the piano competition at the Malaysian Youth Music Festival held at Sunway Convention Centre on August 29.

International Choir Festival 2009

The Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) Ladies Choir brought honour to the country when they won the “Gold Award” in the Chamber Choir category at the International Choir Festival 2009 “A Voyage of Songs”.  This competition took place successfully in Penang between July 4 – 8 with more than 2,500 participants from all over the world.

National University of Singapore’s Music Scholarship Recipients

Through competitive auditions, three recent graduates, Ms Yap Siu Yan, Mr Kok Yoon Sing and Mr Ng Choong Yen from the Music Department were offered full scholarships to continue their studies at the National University of Singapore for the July 2009 session.

MIECO Designer’s Choice

Interior Design students Yee Jing Yong and Lim Kee Hong have won the first prize and second prize in the College Student Category respectively. The winners were selected from six finalists comprising four students from MIA and two students from UiTM.

Charcoal/Ink/Pencil category 2nd Prize worth RM2,000 won by Lai Chan Shiang, 
Mixed Media 2nd prize worth RM2,000 won by Woo Chin Wai (organized by Tanjung Public Limited Company).

Malaysian Youth Orchestra Foundation (MYOF)

1st prize winner in the guitar solo, Diploma section was won by Lawrence Loo Sim Ying

Malaysian Revival Composition Competition 2008

1st prize winner for the Instrumental Composition category was won by Chong Hao Wei.

Australia International Conservatorium of Music (AICM) 2008

Music student Yow Weng Wai was awarded a full scholarship and was admitted into the 2nd year programme at AICM.

Klang Parade Next Top Textile and Fashion Designer Show Parade

Grade Prize – Chong Yeat Lai, 1st runner up – Yoo Ai Ling, 2nd runner up – Melissa Wong Li Tiin.

MODA 2008 Fashion Design Competition

2008 Nippon Paint Young Designer Award

Gold Prize Award (A Trophy + 4 days 3 nights TOKYO TRIP + RM3,000 cash scholarship) won by Interior Design student Liu Jian Leang.
