Introduction

Drawing has been in practice since the Renaissance period (13th century). It is one of the fundamental skills essential in art, as an expressive form by itself. It has gained high artistic value. It is a form of collective item of art all over the world.

Acrylic is a water based, quick drying synthetic art medium. The popularity of acrylic attributed to its great versatility in application to show and give either translucent water colour effects or thick opaque oil painting texture.

Water colour is a medium that takes great skill to control, yet appears to be free of control. Painting in watercolor requires a disciplined approach that at the same time does not stiffen the results. The course offers participants the basic techniques, to how they can be used to paint wide variety of subject.

Oil Painting has been used in various forms from before the fifteenth century. The popularity of oil painting can be attributed to its extraordinary versatility. It offers the artist excellent results from the traditional painting techniques of blending and glazing, impasto and scumbling. Participants will learn the basic techniques to how they can be used to paint a wide variety of subjects.

 

INTRODUCTORY STAGE

Drawing:
Pencil shadings, 2 colours shadings, gesture drawing, one line drawing

Colour Study:
Colour wheel, colour schemes, colour effects

Water Colour / Acrylic:
Flat & graded wash, wet on wet, wet on dry, opaque, creating texture

Oil / Acrylic:

Blending, direct painting, glazing, scumbling, impasto

 

INTERMEDIATE STAGES

Stage I: Exploring Composition & Ideas

Still Life:
Symbol, icon, shallow space, closed up / cropped

Landscape:
Deep field, continuous-field, texture, one-point perspective, multiple perspectives

Portrait:
Planar study, after the great master, after the mirror

 

Stage II: Exploring Modern Art Styles
(western & local artist, subject, techniques, colour scheme)

Impressionism, expression, fauism, cubism, dadaism, surrealism, semi-abstract, abstract expressionism, signobject, colour field, op art

 

ADVANCED STAGE
(exploration & development of style & theme)

Postmodern Approach:
Pop art, new & photo realism, revival of the classical

Thematic Development:
Subject, form, content, visual analysis, style research

Blending, direct painting, glazing, scumbling, impasto

Courses Details

Commencement Date: refer to MIA Art Centre

Day           : Thursday / Saturday

Time          : Thursday
  10:00 am – 12:00 pm
                    2:00pm – 4:00pm
                    7:00pm – 9:00pm

                    Saturday
                    10:00am – 12:00pm

Venue        : 151, Jalan Ampang, KL

Duration    : 4 sessions per month
                    (each session 2 hours)

Instructor   : Ms Shia Yih Yiing

Fee            : RM 200.00 per participant
(excluding art materials)

 

Students are required to bring their own art materials

Art pad, pencil, eraser, colour pencils.

 

 

In general, there will be 4 sessions of 1.5 hours per lesson in a month. Lesson hours for student age 18 and above are 2 hours per lesson.

The fee is divided according to age group. These groups are:

  • Age 4 – 10
  • Age 11 – 12
  • Age 13 – 15
  • Age 16 – 17
  • Age 18 and above

Students will be given the time table on their first day of the class. There will be no replacement class if any of the students absent from the class.

 

*Students who are interested in only oil or acrylic painting

will be charged RM 200 per month.
